Movie Review: The Report

Couple o' evenings back I was having this discussion with a friend about the merits and demerits of democracy and we both agreed that in spite of being completely ill-equipped to bring a swiping change in terms of social or economic reforms, what democracy is capable of doing efficiently is to ensure the scope of counter-narratives... a way to critique the mainstream policies and practices supporting the motion of existing power structure. It is the main deliverable of a successful democratic system to bring any topic, whether or not intuitively held as righteous or benevolent, under the purview of social discourse to judge and dissect it from all possible angles.

The forth on my quarantine watch list is a very powerful movie directed by Scott Z. Burns. The Report follows the original decade long Senate Committee Investigation on the CIA's use of torture and extrajudicial activities after 9/11 in the name of intelligence gathering. A stellar performance by Adam Driver, adequately supportive and detailed cinematography, the tonality of the script all made this real-life political intrigue an impeccable one in the face of the current social dynamics.
